I went to Birmingham and Nashville
I finally got to see my college friends again!
I’ll give a full debrief of all my favorite things I did next, but first I have to go into why it is so important to spend time in person with your people and to keep up with friends even after you move away. In college I made some of my dearest friends. While I try to keep up with them as much as possible, it is harder now that we don’t live in the same state (or the same building like we’re used to!) We are all starting our lives- getting our first jobs, getting engaged and married, and even having babies (eek see above!) While we keep up via text and social media, nothing can truly replace a coffee date or chats while curling your hair. It is important to me to maintain these friendships because these girls have gotten me through some rough patches and also celebrated some of the most exciting moments of my entire life. I truly believe that having good girl friends is essential to my sanity and when I find good ones I make sure to not let them go.
I challenge you this weekend to reach out to someone you haven't talked to in a while or plan a trip to see your old best friend!! Your heart will be glad you did.
I flew into Birmingham on a Thursday and (literally!) went straight to Wasabi Juan's to meet my friend SK for a sushi burrito. I dream about these things every night, I will never not want one. I always get the Destin, which is most similar to a California Roll. The rice-tortilla is thick and the perfect amount of chewy and the sauce they use has so much flavor but is not spicy at all! WJ also has chicken and steak burritos, so no worries if you are not a fish person. The best part is every burrito comes with salty tortilla chips and salsa. It is the thing of dreams.
The downtown WJ location is conveniently right next to a brewery that had the cutest glasses and great brews! Spending this time with SK was so great because we rarely get to catch up and there is just no substitute for sitting down and getting into everything that is going on.
I stayed with my bestie Laura Leigh and we went all around Birmingham the next day. We went to this adorable photo booth place called The Pixel Room. We got to pick the music and just ran around giving each other a photo shoot at every backdrop. It was seriously the best time!
We then went to a classic Birmingham eatery for lunch--Taco Mama. I always get the make-your-own-nachos and we got to meet up with Olivia. Olivia was Laura Leigh’s little in our sorority and she was my grandbig! My big was unable to meet up with us because we were just missing each other going between Alabama and Tennessee! Still such a fun family reunion.
For dinner, we met up with my friend Taylor and started on our way to Nashville!
The next day we went to Nashville for brunch with the whole group at Clyde’s, which was a great time. I met up with everyone else including Anne Marie and Weslyn who are two of my very favorite humans in the world. They are both so sweet and ambitious and fun. I will never get over how full my heart felt after this weekend!
We bar hopped and did all the Nashville things- it truly could have been a bachelorette trip because there is no difference apparently in a normal Saturday in Nash and what the bachelorette groups are doing. The moral of the story is get out there and make memories with your friends and put in the effort to maintain your college friendships because they are precious.
