I went to 7 City Church

Not my first time down on W 7th, definitely the first time I left feeling good about myself.

I went to 7 City Church in W 7th in Fort Worth this Sunday! They had coffee and Krispy Kreme (I am a sucker for Krispy Kreme donuts.) It followed the Fort Worth church theme of a dark room, but had a smaller band who was very talented and included a keyboard, drums, and guitar. They started the service with about 20 minutes of singing and they played some of my favorite songs. The remainder of the service was the lesson. They did not take communion when I was there. It was the smallest service we’ve been to with probably about 25 other people there.

The service was very positive overall with uplifting songs and message. They are doing a series on stress and how the Bible teaches us to deal with it. Specifically, this week was on financial stress. This may not have been the best week to give this place a try given the delicate conversation, and it felt to me like prosperity gospel. Specifically, the preacher gave the example of “The Biblical Wheat Experiment” which suggests that the farmers success in growing wheat should be fully attributed to his immediately preceding tithing and citing to Malachi. While very interesting, I personally believe that generosity should not come from a place of expecting a larger return. I agreed with the rest of the message overall that to avoid financial stress we should handle money with: 1. integrity, 2. contentment, 3. self-control 4. trust in God, and  5. generosity.

They did not have a bulletin, so I wrote my notes on their giving envelope, please enjoy :,)

Rating: 7/10- The preacher was engaging and I thought the worship team did a great job.
