skin care- deep dive into lip balms
I gave an overview on December 5th for each of the skincare steps that I've researched. Each Sunday, I'm doing a deep dive into each step and what I've learned about the products. This week is: LIP BALMS
Your lips are sensitive and need more protection than the rest of your face. The skin on your lips is thinner than your general face skin and being part of the breathing and eating process can dry out this skin much faster than the skin around it. Chapped or sunburned lips are not pretty at best and even uncomfortable and embarrassing at times.
While lip balms are intended to moisturize your lips, some common ingredients can irritate and dry out your lips. Ingredients to avoid: eucalyptus, menthol, salicylic acid, hyaluronic acid, and glycerin. Also, it is generally better to avoid artificial colors, flavors, and scents. However, SPF is great to have in your chapstick, so look for that!
I’ve heard that these are good:
Vaseline Lip Therapy $3 (my favorite)
Blistex $1 (what I use often, SPF 15)
Aquaphor Lip Repair $4 (the best if your lips are chapped!, SPF 30)
Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip $25 (a chapstick + lipgloss but not sticky)
Fresh Dream Sugar $25 (amazing)
Vaseline + Aloe Vera $3 (best if going to tropical area!)
