Comparing my favorite LIP BALMS
Each day this week, I put one lip balm to the test all day to test (1) color, (2) hydration, (3) feel, and (4) duration. Each of these lip balms have been my go-to recently, so it was time they went head to head. Here are the results:
Day 1: Fresh- Sugar (in color petal)
The softest your lips will ever be.
Color: gorgeous and rich color, very similar to Pillow Talk by Charlotte Tilbury.
Hydration: good for maintenance, your lips feel very moisturized, but not as intense as some others.
Feel: it feels smoother than butter, so nice!! Not sticky in the slightest.
Duration: very happy with the duration, I reapplied mostly for color, but never felt like my lips were drying out. The color and feel look fresh for about three hours.
Day 2: Tarte- Maracuja Oil Juicy Lip
The best replacement for lip stick or lip gloss.
Color: the options are plentiful and all beautiful. Right now, I’m partial to “rose,” but you will find whatever look you’re going for. I currently have 7 different shades for different seasons/outfits/occassions. You can definitely use this in place of lip balm & lip gloss because it looks so polished and cute.
Hydration: good for maintenance, and looking good and plump all day.
Feel: closer to a lip gloss, BUT it passes the stick test meaning my hair does not stick to my lips and get disgusting.
Duration: very happy with the duration, after three hours you can start to feel your lips need to be reapplied; stays looking for about two hours.
Day 3: Vaseline- Petroleum Jelly, Rosy
The best for a casual or “no makeup” look.
Color: super pretty, but more natural looking than the other tinted options. It is less noticeable when you put it since it is out of the jar on as well, so a great option for in class or hanging out and being less conspicuous about pretty-ing your lips.
Hydration: very hydrating, will get your lips out of bad shape and the color helps hide signs of being chapped while it does it.
Feel: not sticky at all.
Duration: longest lasting hydration of the tinted options.
Day 4: Vaseline- Lip Therapy, Coco Butter
The best option if your lips are in a state.
Color: it is off white, but goes on clear. Doesn’t add much to the look.
Hydration: extremely hydrating, I would only trust this to save my most chapped lips.
Feel: a little sticky at first, avoid your hair getting in it (blow drying or wind) for about 5 minutes, then it is fine.
Duration: very long lasting, it is very thick and will lock in hydration for hours.
Day 5: Aquaphor Lip Protectant (30 SPF)
The best casual summer look- adds volume and SPF!
Color: none, it is clear, but it is kind of thick so it does add some volume to your lips.
Hydration: extremely hydrating, I use this all through summer the second my lips feel sunburned or chapped at all.
Feel: a little sticky, but my hair does not stick to it at all–less sticky than the Tarte even.
Duration: very long lasting. I put it on before bed and my lips still feel hydrated in the morning.
