New Years Eve
This New Year’s Eve we stayed at the Westin Stonebriar in Frisco, Texas.
Andrew and I decided to switch it up. His mom had a round of chemo this week, so with her increased susceptibility + the rise of omicron we wanted to make sure we weren’t around a bunch of people. We decided to stay in a nice room just far enough out of town that it felt like a mini vacation. Outfit details are at the bottom! I cannot recommend doing this enough! It was great to have intentional time with just us and getting just out of town made it feel so special!
It was really easy to get to, right off the highway. They had all their trees lining the driveway up lit up for Christmas and it was so pretty. We got a charcuterie board and champagne (the preserves were so good and the champagne was Veuve Clincquot!)
Then, we ordered in some sushi from the sushi restaurant right next door. We originally had reservations for it, but with his mom decided to have it delivered and it was absolutely delicious anyway. We got everything we love–spicy edemame, pot stickers, teriyaki salmon, temptation roll, and one thing to try: the blazing roll. Everything was delicious, but neither the spicy edamame nor the blazing roll were very spicy and I have a very moderate pallet–I could have used a little bit more zing. If I went back, I would get the salmon again, it was so good.
For desert, we ordered a s’more from on-site… and the s’more deserves a whole moment:
…and it was delicious!! The chocolate was a really soft fudge!
We played “We’re not really strangers”
Review: it was pretty fun and had good topics, but it would probably be better for people who don’t know each other very well and are in a newer relationship/friendship! It wouldn’t be weird for friends to play it–it was very appropriate.
I made it to about 10:30, so I did not even see the ball drop in NYC, but I gave it a good effort. We seriously had the best time though, just laughing and chatting all night. Sometimes just getting a nice room can make everything seem special and fun.
I also brought the prettiest bottle of wine I’ve ever seen. I don’t usually drink rose, but this was pretty good! It’s called Fleurs de Prarie and has pretty flowers that come out around the bottom of the bottle.
In the morning (New Years Day) we had room service breakfast. The employee who brought it in was so nice and chipper-even though he was working early on NYD which I found very impressive. We each got a mimosa and the OJ had pulp (which we both like) at the top only. I had the rose scented french toast–absolutely divine. It is “japanese style” so extra fluffy and soft! It also comes with bacon, but I gave that to Andrew. Andrew had the Stonebriar breakfast with scrambled eggs, sausage links, and honey wheat toast. So good and came with little personal hot sauce and ketchups that made my whole day. Everything (including drinks) came with a cover or saran wrap over it (you can see we forgot to take it off a few things before the pic) so it all felt very hygienic and safe.
We checked out of our room, but went only down to the first floor to the Top Golf Swing Suite! It was really low key and fun so we could at least move a bit for how tired we were. You can play a baseball pitching game, hockey, football quarterback, dodgeball, carnival games, and the classic golf games that you can play at top golf. I actually got a lot better at my golf swing, although I do keep switching into my softball swing about halfway through.
You can order food and drinks and they are from the hotel bistro. We’d had enough drinks, although judging from the mimosa earlier that morning, I’m sure they are great. I got a fried chicken sandwich and it was unreal good-perfectly friend and just thinking about the sauce is making my mouthwater. Andrew got a bison burger that he said was equally insanely good.
We did eventually leave-although it was pretty sad to go and for that to be over. We went back to Andrew’s place and got some Mellow Mushroom. MM has somehow become our New Years Day tradition and I’m in love with the spinach artichoke dip- especially because I can always convince Andrew to give me one slice of pizza. I’d never tried their brownies before but it was really good-fudgy and large chocolate chips in it!
I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Years Eve!!
